Pegasus Scotland now offering fixed wing courses.

Earlier this month myself and Brian collected our new fixed wing trainer. We have chosen a Thruster Sprint which offers an ideal platform for training new pilots. The aircraft has a Jabiru 2200 engine that delivers 80HP . We picked the machine up from Wellingborough and flew her up to Balado. With a cruise speed of 70knots we were able to cruise for three and a half hours with a fuel consumption of only 12 litres per hour. We will also be offering instructor courses for fixed wing on this machine as well as ab-initio training. There are two shares available in the machine for those who would like a low cost form of fixed wing flying.

Balado new CAA radiotelephony centre

FRTOL (Flight Radio Telephony Operators License) ground school and examinations are now available at Balado with our in house examiner Simon Jeffrey.

Simon, a keen microlighter, has been examining at Perth for some time and has recently applied for conduct of examinations at Balado. Just today Simon has received approval for the conduct of radio examinations.

The examinations are held in the old control tower and utilise state of the art RANT XL Communications software to simulate a real radio environment.

Buckets and spades on Islay

This trip happened a few weeks ago but it is never too late to share a good story. Three of our machines had flown out to Oban one evening where we took refuge in the Oyster Inn at North Connel. The next day dawned and there was bad weather everywhere east of Oban. To kill the time we went to the local fish market and bought a kilo of Langoustines. In the afternoon the conditions were perfect so we went to a beach on the north west side of Islay to have a picnic microlight style. My father is a keen sailor and had advised of tide times to make sure the tide was out. At this location there is not a soul to be found and you can land on the beach which is one mile long. One stove cooked the crustaceans and the other boiled the soup. A perfect day out and possible from Balado on one tank of fuel.

One year at Balado Park.

One the night of the 25th of September we celebrated one year at Balado Park. A BBQ was laid on by Douglas and Jamie which attracted 50 people. We would like to thank Douglas and Jamie for all their hard work in getting the airfield going. We would also like to thank all those who came making the evening such good fun. The Sunday morning saw many sore heads crawling out of their tents . Here is to many more parties to come.

Pegasus Scotland celebrates one year at Balado.

This weekend Pegasus Scotland celebrate's the end of it's first year at Balado. We now have 18 aircraft in the hangar and over 50 members. During this year the hang glider pilots at Thornhill have also joined us to create Scotlands premier aerotow club. We now have two Quantum 912's for towing and will have a feast of hang gliding on the 25/26th of September. All students are invited to come to the BBQ on the Saturday and any persons wishing to try hang gliding on our tandem are requested to make themselves present on the Sunday.

With updates being easier you will see more info on the site in the coming months. Instructor Course Approval

Pegasus Flight Training has been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority to run instructor courses at their new site. Captain Paul Radcliffe from the CAA inspected our premises and paperwork and we have received the approval. Also in mid December Marcus will take ownership of his new QuikR which is the worlds fastest flexwing and is available for all customers and students to try out. We hope you will like it. Imagine Bute and back in under 2 hours.

Balado!

Pegasus Flight Training is moving! As of the end of August 2008 we will be operating out of Balado Bridge Airfield near Kinross. A former Spitfire base which will now operate as a microlight centre and an aerotow club for hang glider pilots. We have great new facilities including a hangar, control tower with log burner and WI-FI. From the beginning of September all our flights will take place from there. Our internet details have remained the same but our new phone number is 01577 863645. We have also started the process to have a new hangar and clubhouse that will house 40 machines . If you would like a space just ask Marcus. Look forward to seeing you there!

Hang gliding

The second GT450 has arrived. After flying all over Europe and letting several students fly solo the old GT450 was retired. We now have a brand new GT namely GCEVW. To compliment this we also a Quantum 912 for solo use, hire and general tuition. If you are interested in joining in on a syndicated Quantum then just let us know! New for 2008 is the addition of hang gliding at the airfield. We will be providing air experiences at Perth from April 2008 onwards. (Check out our hang gliding section)

New LOGO

Scottish Aeroclub Microlight Division & Alpine Vol (France) have decided to take on a mutual company logo. Now trading as "PEGASUS FLIGHT TRAINING (SCOTLAND) or (FRANCE)". The new venture has adopted a logo utilising the much known Pegasus flying horse. This idea came from the fact that the schools use mainly Pegasus aircraft and have a close relationship with the Pegasus factory in Manchester. New Aircraft

Marcus Dalgetty today received his new Pegasus Quik GT450. This is the most recent addition to the training fleet offering good handling and speed characteristics. When asked to quote about his new machine Marcus said "This aircraft is revolutionary. At last we have a school machine that will offer ab-intio training, student solo use and huge potential for long distance adventures". This will be a great machine for the school as it offers both slow and fast handling speeds which allow training to be accomplished locally without exceeding the known area. Also this allows navigational training to further a field areas opening up the west coast airfields to the student pilot!
